Bee Pod Hive Inspections
Have the Bee Pod Hive inspections begun at the UEC?
Do you need to sign up in advance, is there an associated fee?
Hive Inspections at UEC
Thanks Shawn... Hive inspections are held every other Saturday 10a-noon if the weather is permitting so yes - do call ahead and do register with UEC. Hive inspections cost $10 for members and $15 for nonmenbers. You might be wise to wear a white long sleeve top and refrain from eating any Bananas before coming down.
We're also doing inspections at Sweetwater Organics, Growing Power and Boerner Botanical Trial Gardens. Check the calendars for each place or ours right here for our next event.
Realtor's Home & Garden Show
We're having much fun cross-pollinating the people and creating a buzz.... what about? New Beepods, awareness of the importance of Bees and the role they play in our food system... and helping to give people choices for how the GIVE BEES A CHANCE!
Eco-Wood
Question: Is the Eco-Wood treatment used on the Bee Pod appropriate / safe to use on timber frames for a raised bed garden? Where can I purchase Eco-Wood?
Eco Wood
Hi Shawn, Yes EcoWood is perfect for any outdoor application of wood exposed to the elements. Its been used throughout Alberta Canada on Signs, Buildings, Picnic Benches and Walkways. It's been used by Beekeepers and Gardeners with no ill effects... principally because it is made of natural ingredients in an old and protected mixture. You should visit their website to learn more and see examples of their product. We've personally inspected log homes built 15 years ago using EcoWood (then called Lifetime Wood Treatment) and the wood look as solid and fresh as if they were built last year. Plus they had the wonderful silver-graying that old wood shows when exposed to sunlight.
The manufactures have said they will be stocking EcoWood at Home Depots soon, however I neglected to ask if they meant just in Canada and not the US. We'd found they advertised Lifetime was available at Ace Hardware stores only to find out not in the USA.
You can purchase from the manufacturer directly or from us. Contact sales@beepods.com for more details.
How's Everyone Hive doing?
Just wanted to see if anyone else is having Drone Death, Swarms or lack of honey issues at this time. I've asked other round the country and many are doing fine, but regionally we're having some crazy things... anyone else?
Mequon Bees are bee-zy
My Langstoth has been super busy the past two weeks. Prior to that the bees were in a lull for most of august. They just didn't gather the stores like they have in years past. I went through the hive and added a number of new frames in different locations to promote comb building and honey storage... but it didn't work. So last inspection i rearranged several frames and supers and removed one super with honey. Since then, the bees got a new lease on life and have been fully engaged in gathering.
Get out and kick-start your bee hive...
